1. Brasstown Bald Summit Trail

  • Difficulty: Easy - steadily uphill, but short

  • Description: This short, easy hike takes you to the highest peak in Georgia. Experience stunning panoramic views of the mountains and valleys from the observation tower at the summit. Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and sometimes the Atlanta skyline can all be seen from the Visitor Center’s observation deck.


2. Helton Creek Falls Trail

  • Distance: Approximately 0.6 miles (round trip)

  • Difficulty: Easy - family friendly, but rocks are slippery so use caution

3. DeSoto Falls Trail

  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate - kid friendly, relatively short with moderate elevation change

  • Description: Explore the awe-inspiring DeSoto Falls in Chattahoochee National Forest. This trail offers various vantage points to view the falls, making it a short yet captivating hike. Legend has it that a piece of armor was found from DeSoto’s expedition in the mid-1500s.


4. High Shoals Falls Loop Trail

  • Difficulty: Moderate - climbs steeply and is moderately rough

  • Description: This moderate hike takes you through a lush forest, culminating in the sight of a spectacular waterfall. As a bonus, the High Shoals Falls Trail has educational displays along the trail giving information about the various geological formations that make up the gorge.


5. Bell Mountain

  • Distance: This isn't technically a hike, but still a family favorite - climb 115 stairs to the look-out for 360* views

  • Difficulty: Easy - gorgeous views from the parking area are accessible with no hiking or climbing, you can also climb the 115 stairs to the summit for the best views

  • Description: Drive to the top of Bell Mountain and enjoy miles of panoramic views that stretch from Georgia to North Carolina and Tennessee. You can see breathtaking views right from the parking lot, or choose to climb to the summit of Bell Mountain for stunning 360* views of the surrounding landscape at 3424 ft. This activity is family friendly!
